Group Exhibition | Resilience
September 17 - October 29, 2020 at the Red Brick Center for the Arts, Aspen, CO
The works presented examined resilience and the characteristics that help us endure and even thrive in the face of seemingly unsurmountable challenges. The works asked, how do we grow in the midst of hardship? Viewers were asked to take a journey alongside various artistic mediums including painting, sculpture, poetry, and music examining the concept of resiliency. As we face immense challenges on a global scale, art can sooth and question how we deal and overcome with so much uncertainty.

The portraits I made are all about 10x10 inches using watercolor and gouache on paper. The subjects are all people I know who I feel represent the spirit of resilience, which may be defined as the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties.

Solo Exhibition | Self-Reflective Universe
September 4 - October 2, 2020 at Carbondale Arts in Carbondale, CO
In his solo exhibition “Self-Reflected Universe”, Brian Colley explored variations on the self-portrait as interpreted through both an intimately personal and existentially cosmic lens. Primarily showing acrylic on panel works as well as some watercolors, Brian chose to paint self-portraits as a way to examine his own experiences of sudden loss, change, and personal growth over the past couple years. The work represented here celebrates his resilience through it all, and Brian hopes others will find ways to connect to the work through their own personal stories of success and failure.
